Mindfulness in Schools 

 

The Mindfulness in Schools Project is a non-profit organisation whose aim is to encourage, support and research the teaching of secular mindfulness in schools.  The have created a range of courses called .b which stands for Stop, Breathe and Be.

 

There are three different courses on offer:

.b Foundations  

An eight week course of 90 mins per week for teachers to develop their own mindfulness practice

.b

A ten week course for older children to learn how to manage their stress and emotional resilience.

Paws b

A six week course for younger children to understand about the brain and how it reacts under pressure.

 

A taster session is advised as an introduction to the basic principles of mindfulness

It will provide an opportunity to try out the practice and explain the evidence for its potential benefits. This 90 -120 minute session can take place during an inset day or a twilight slot at the end of the school day, to the whole staff body, a group of staff and parents. 

 

Whilst the taster is a stand-alone session, it can also be the start of the mindfulness journey for staff and schools. The school can hear from staff whether they wish to explore mindfulness further through the .b Foundations course. This 8-session is primarily for adults to enhance their own wellbeing, but would also enable those who develop a practice to qualify for further training in order to teach .b (age11-18) or Paws .b  (age 7-11) to young people.
